Mission To Earth

1)  I would say "Misson to earth" shows a new preface with its creativity to present a completely different and innovative cinema when compared to the traditional form of filmmakeing. Traditional filmmaking often hinges on the script, actors and a list of cinematic elements to achieve the whole work. Order and sequence are always connected to make the sense of 'story' for auidence. But the highlighted feature of "Misson to earth", namely, how the scene or image randomly mixed and split, would be the biggest difference about digital cinema.


Digital cinema allows sequences and images to be separated randomly. Like "Misson to earth", it seems it's not the story or image itself present the whole thing, but rather rely on the voice over to describe a particular idea, what makes cinema and film more abstract and experimental. In this film, appearance is divided into many parts, and different parts are selected to be abstract graphics, video footage etc, this kind of multi-media style and presentation is totally alter to the traditional film. While traditional cinema play by device all in the same track, it is not feasible to merge or select different footage, as they have no suitable technology to do so.   


Also, in the film, graphics are likely to be produced randomly through progamming and digital technology, which makes the uniqueness of digital cinema because traditional filmmaking would not use frame by frame scene to longer their production. And for the most important difference might be the change of genre, in the world of traditional filmmaking, we have draw a clear line to different genre, for example comedy, horror, fiction or non-fiction one, yet in “Mission to Earth”, it's hard to figure out the genre, perhaps, it is what the filmmaker would like to create, allenination, in order to express the deepest or any underlying idea to the audience.


2)  The form of live music, art-jamming etc
Improvisation, namely, live music like Jazz or Blues, reminds me of the randomness of "Misson to earth". Musicians always perform as impromptu, with their sentiment and instruments, they may change the melody or change the song into acoustic version. Samely, the graphics in the film are also selected randomly through the process of programming.

Art-jamming as a new event for HongKongers, also share the similiarity with the film. Praised as 'paintertainment', the randomness and creativity do simliar to the film, both of them just like searching a new way to jam their own art work, with surprises.

Experimental film
The features of digital cinema express a innovative presentation, showing how a film can be, just as a experimental work of art. "Misson to earth"  tells us that film can be with less drama but more abstraction to create. Both of them manipulate the form of cinema so as to express their own, in the eyes of public, it might be not attractive as the popoular genre of film, however, the properity of experimental gives a new way for audience.


Painting
The seperation and spliting style of the film remind me of  Piet Mondrian's work, both of them looks simliar.
